Delete a worksheet on Mac

1

Control+click the sheet tab

At the bottom of the window, Control+click (or right-click) the tab of the sheet you want to delete.

2

Choose Delete

In the menu that appears, click Delete.

3

Confirm

Excel asks you to confirm because the sheet cannot be recovered. Click Delete to finish.

✅ Pro Tip: To delete several sheets at once, hold ⌘ Command and click each tab, then Control+click one of the selected tabs and choose Delete. All selected sheets are removed together.

When Delete is grayed out

Workbook structure is protected

Go to the Review tab → Unprotect Workbook. Enter the password if asked, then try Delete again. See the Unprotect Guide.

Workbook is in Shared mode

Shared workbooks don't allow structural changes. Go to Review → Unshare Workbook, then delete the sheet.

Only one sheet left

Excel always keeps at least one visible sheet. If you only have one, add a new sheet first (Shift+F11), then delete the one you don't need.

💡 Good to know: If you meant to remove a sheet from view but keep the data, use Hide instead — right-click the tab → Hide. See the Hide a Worksheet guide.
