About This Nouns Worksheet

This nouns worksheet introduces Grades 1-3 students to the concept of nouns as naming words for people, places, things, and animals. Students identify nouns in sentences, sort common nouns into categories, and practice distinguishing nouns from other parts of speech. A perfect foundation for all future grammar learning. Print on US Letter or A4. Answer key included.

What Students Will Learn

Students learn that every complete sentence needs a noun — the "who" or "what" the sentence is about. They practice the four categories: people (teacher, doctor, Maria), places (school, park, kitchen), things (book, ball, computer), and animals (dog, bird, fish). The worksheet uses pictures and simple sentences appropriate for early readers, building both grammar knowledge and reading confidence.

How Teachers Can Use This Worksheet

How Parents and Homeschoolers Can Use This Worksheet

Play the "noun game" around the house: take turns pointing at objects and saying their names. Then try adding describing words: "red ball," "soft pillow." This prepares your child for learning about adjectives later. While completing the worksheet, if your child struggles with the category sorting, ask guiding questions: "Is a park a place you go, or a thing you hold?"
